The Committee would like to extend their best wishes for Christmas to you all and hope that you have a peaceful and content festive period. Those of you who are group members should have received the final 2023 edition of ‘The Growler’ magazine by now and, hopefully, you have enjoyed another top selection of articles and photos. Do remember that the magazine is always requiring any new articles (no matter how short or long) that are relevant to the Class 37 so, if you have something you would like to contribute then don’t be shy! Also, if you are not yet a member, or you need to renew your membership, what better time to do so than at Christmas…..it makes a fine last minute present! We have a brand new shop site being developed as we speak; however, the membership section is now up and running for new memberships and renewals. You can access it via the ‘Membership’ tab on the website main page.
With 2023’s season in it’s twilight both locos are serviceable and have been used as ‘Thunderbird’ locos for the Santa Specials at the GWSR. 37215 has seen a couple of days of action substituting for one of the steam locomotives however, with 2024 looming, there are only 3 days left to sample the locos before Winter maintenance. These days will be on the Mince Pie Special services – Saturday 30th, Sunday 31st and January 1st – where the diesel will operate the last round trip of the day. Hopefully we will see some of you out to support us for the final runs of 2023.
2024 is shaping up to be a special year as we have big birthdays for both 37215 and D6948 as they both reach the big 6-0. It is hoped that a special event will be arranged for us to celebrate this and the Committee is hard at work with the GWSR Board looking at what can be arranged. Of course, we will keep you posted as things take shape.
