Autumn Showcase Gala and run down to Winter Maintenance

The last weekend of October (28 and 29) saw the GWSR run its end of season, mixed traffic ‘Autumn Showcase’ Gala. This event gives a final opportunity to get the locomotives out for one last event before the season draws to a close. Both 37215 and D6948 were in use on the ‘English Electric’ Sunday where they were joined by Class 20, 20137 and the Class 117 set from the Diesel Department. I sadly couldn’t get there due to illness but, judging by the videos and photos on social media, the event was a great success and both our Class 37’s ran without issue. click to continue reading

37215 – 25 Years in active Preservation

37215 sits at Toddington ready to celebrate 25 years since it’s resurrection.

On a wet and windy Sunday, 24th September 2023, 37215 was prepped ready to celebrate 25 Years since it’s first passenger working on the GWSR. The event was scheduled a day earlier than the actual anniversary (25 September 1998), but a healthy number of punters descended on the railway to help the Group celebrate this huge milestone. click to continue reading

D6948 pilots 37215 on arrival at Cheltenham Race Course with 2C21 from Broadway.

A fantastic attendance, decent weather and a great showing by both locomotives (although D6948 did throw a strop a couple of times!) ensured that the whole day was great success for the Group and for the railway as a whole. It was great to see the interest in both locos from the general public as well as the enthusiast fraternity, with a steady stream of cab visits and questions for the crews. click to continue reading

Double Up Sunday – 6 August

Sunday 6th August 2023 sees the second in the GWSR’s ‘Double Up Sunday’ events, this one utilising both 37215 and D6948. After much deliberation, here is the order of service for the day. Remember, as it is a Pink timetable day, there are three round trips – a total of 84 miles of glorious English Electric noise! The day will see both double heading as well as top and tailing utilised. We hope to see you there to support the group! click to continue reading
