An important task has been to thoroughly clean and refurbish the electrical cubicle at no.2 end. This is not only good ‘housekeeping’ but is essential to help keep the electrical equipment reliable and free of dirt, dust and other contaminants during the refurbishment process, which will be important when the loco is re-commissioned back into service. Following stripping to bare metal and needle gunning (as with no.1 cab), undercoating of no.2 cab is underway and a new ceiling has been fitted. The electrical cubicle has also been thoroughly cleaned and the doors taken off, sanded and sprayed. click to continue reading

Sunday 6th November was a major milestone in the project to restore 37248 to as built condition. Following installation of fuel and water pipework to the boiler together with the necessary electrical connections, a successful first steaming took place of the boiler in the locomotive. The installation of the main steam pipe along the locomotive together with the associated buffer beam steam heat fittings and pipework will follow. click to continue reading
